i believe Holiness is real

Ive been praying that we would be a "Blood and Fire" Army!

I believe holiness is real. I believe we can get it. I believe in entire sanctification. I believe we dont need to sin and that we can stop sinning. I believe The Salvation Armys doctrines. I believe God ment "be holy as I am holy" when He said it. I believe the blood of Jesus cleanses us and the fire of the Holy Spirit enables us to live a holy life.

Imagine if the whole Salvation Army was washed in the blood and filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit?!?! Imagine a holy army? Imagine a Spirit empowered Army from the most insignificant soldier right up to the general! (and every adherent and social worker/employee too!)

Do the people reading this blog believe you can be free from sin in the here and now? Do you believe you can stop sinning? Have you stopped sinning?

If not, why not Jimmy?

God calls us to be holy as He is holy - so it is possible! I wouldn't personally claim to be sinless, but this is my hearts desire!
If we can remain without sin for an hour, why not 24, why not a week? This is not will power but His Spirits Power, it is not legalism but freedom! True freedom is like a wild horse running through a field without stumbling block or hinderance - it is being what you are created to be and doing what you are created to do. We are created to be holy as individuals and a Holiness movement as an Army!

Nice things to say mercypeacegrace but as you note yourself there is a difference between reality and idealism. Great ideas and great if they were true, but ultimately useless, as you admit that you aren't sinless! We might desire something but it doesn't mean we can have it.

I find it amusing that people implore others to be sinless, claim that it is possible because of God's word, call on the Army to banish all sin, and yet can't live it themselves.

Until it is lived in your lives, it seems a bit rich to tell others that it is possible!

who says we aren't already a holy army. Is it possible, here on earth to be totally sin free? Would we need God's grace if we were totally sin free?

Anon, Holiness means to be unique and set apart, this includes from sin.
God says to be Holy, He does not ask or commsion us to do or be something that is not possible. Jesus was fully human and did not sin.
Samuel Logan Bengle was sinless for many years until his death.
Again I would ask, if we can remain sinless for an hour, why not 24? Why not forever?
This is His spirit at work within us, not our own spirit.

You say "Again I would ask, if we can remain sinless for an hour, why not 24? Why not forever?"

Good question. Why not answer it yourself? Why hasn't it worked for you?

Anon, it is working for me, and the freedom and excitement is tremendous. Im not perfect, but am being perfected.
A baby is not born running, but this does not mean it is not meant to run when it is more mature. A toddler often falls but this is only a travesty if they don't get up again and persist for what is a birth right.
It is the privledge of every beliver to be holy, and to say this is not possible because it is not attained in its fullness instantaneously is a pretty miserable outlook.

Life being a journey, we learn as we go along, mostly from our mistakes. As a baby learning to walk it has to fall a few times before it learns to stand properly! Being Holy is the same thing, we have to sin a few times to learn how to avoid it and become Holy and Sanctified.

Guidance and disciplining yourself to listen to the Holy Spirit is a very important factor too, especially in a world where discipline is classed as bondage!

Anonymous, do you have a name??

1) God has told us to be holy, so it doesnt matter if its me or some other person saying it. Its a command from God.

2) Even in a state of holinee we need Gods grace to get there and to stay there! Im sure you would love the idea of living in the grace of God!

3) Jesus is the prime example of a human living here on Earth sin free! Im sure with the Holy Spirit we can do it then!

4) I have times in my life i am holy. The main thing that stops me from being holy is disobedience. And times when I dont let God be incharge of my life.

5) Holiness is not the inability to sin, but the ability to not sin!

Can I just say that I'm amused all over again!!

It seems everyone agrees with me - we can't live sinless lives because in the words of you all:
a. "Im not perfect, but am being perfected."
b. "Life being a journey, we learn as we go along, mostly from our mistakes."
c. "The main thing that stops me from being holy is disobedience. And times when I dont let God be incharge of my life."

It seems that at this point in time our experience is similar in that we all sin.

I would love to know if/when this sinning stops for you and you become perfected!! Until then ... I'm glad we all agree.

Do you chase holiness or resign yourself to sinning?

Focus on the real issue. Be Holy!

'i can do anything through God who gives me strength' phillipains 4:13.

i believe that it is possible to stop sinning for a certain amount of time and that that time can be increased as we grow closer to God and whether you believe that or not it doesn't change the fact that Jesus was fully human and didn't sin.

if we are really struggling to be like Jesus then why let the devil convince us that we can't? jesus conquered the devil and beat death! he gave us the power over evil spirits! so why be content with going through the same cycle of temptation and sin day after day if we don't have to?

james great blog! and thankyou for showing me that i don't have to put up with sinning just because i'm human.

I'm interested to know how we know that Logan Brengle was 'sinless' for many years and by who's standards? 1 John 1:8-10 says, "8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."
My understanding is that we are a work in progress until we die and go to heaven. We wil never be sinless until then. Holiness is something to be strived for but never obtained until the work is complete when we meet the Father. Good on everyone for seeking Holiness, but be very careful in seeking it not to fall into the trap of pride.
